Hi ๐Ÿ‘‹ I’m Sonja I have late dx Bipolar 1 & Borderline Personality Disorder both in remission by natural & lifestyle plus very very late dx/very recent Inattentive ADHD & Autism, (History of PTSD/cPTSD/GAD) Dx at 49 with Bipolar & BPD at 52 & #AuDHD just this year! All my belated diagnoses have helped me as maps to manage this extreme combination of conditions. Never medicated, never hospitalised, my blogs contain a distillation of the natural means i’ve found useful to date. This is a new blog as I feel like I’m a new person now that I’ve finally got all the pieces I need to make sense out of my broken/different physiology, nervous system & psychology.

PQQ, NMN & Ubiquinol (new links)

 https://nutrioplongevity.com/blogs/news/the-four-cellular-horsemen-pqq-coq10-nmn-and-nadh

I’ve been meaning to blog about my new Nootropics stack for ages.

I’ve moved through & out of most of my magic sidebar, all that are still listed served me well at various stages. But I’ve cleared the deck as I wanted to check out these 3 high performers of repute that are especially recommended for older people & those wanting improved cognitive performance whilst protecting themselves from dementia, Alzheimer’s etc, the risk of which is escalated with all forms of long term mental & nervous system illness.

The linked product article calls this stack the 4 horsemen but actually NMN is a precursor to NAD+ in its own right, as is NADH, I think the 2 different versions are popular because they use different pathways in the brain & are synergistic in their own right. I noticed Dr Mercola recommended straight up B3 Niacinamide itself recently to nearly everyone, for a range of metabolic, anti-aging & neurology enhancing purposes so that's a cheaper alternative to both NMN & NADH right there. Check out the difference here.

Anyway, I’ve cheaply sourced my 3 horsemen separately & its a really good combination & I’m really enjoying it, I feel more joined up mentally & I’m having less anxiety so this is a huge win, probably a happy bi-product of it’s neuroprotective aspect. I’m still on a Saffron just one 15mg a day which I definitely feel the benefit of & im on that for the long haul. I briefly used Methylene Blue & had a recovery of some, what I think was retina damage, wtv, it had a really positive effect on my vision which was one of the reasons I was interested in it. I will go back to MB later I feel. (I’ve actually just used it to good affect as an anti microbial on one of my dogs, it has so many uses)

I would say with PQQ, NMN plus Ubiquinol (easier to assimilate CoQ10) I would not deem it necessary for young, fit people or for older people who feel they have optimised their nutrition really well but I’m personally on a mission to restore as much of my neurology as possible that was damaged by not only rolling Bipolar 1 episodes for several decades but endless retraumatisation with all the comorbidities & missed dxs as well as other actual real world traumas.

Here’s a nice article about PQQ

https://drlewisclarke.com/pqq-the-benefits-and-why-your-brain-cells-need-it/

And one about NAD+

https://draxe.com/nutrition/nad-supplement/

& this rat study on Ubiquinol kind of infers why it stacks with PQQ & NMN for brain health

Neat Poly Vagal Graphic

Poly Vagal theory is so damn helpful - I’ve had great success with my over all nervous system integrity with some really simple exercises, also the fascia release from Human Garage that I posted - I did it as proscribed a couple of times, def felt benefits then adapted it to a simplified version I can do daily or when I’m anxious - fabulous stuff

Chiropractic for Nervous System Repair

This is so obvious an approach to throw at mental illness/nervous system dysfunction at the precise same time as being rather left field & unlikely.

And I am well up for it. I love my chiropractor, I don’t need to see him very often but he performs real miracles as far as my hips & shoulders are concerned & just from the perspective of not being in physical pain constantly mental health is improved but apparently there is more.

Here is Russell on his Awakening with Russell YouTube channel talking to his own Chiropractor Dr Jerome Poupel as well as Phd neurophysiologist (I want that qualification ๐Ÿ˜ but 7 yrs study ๐Ÿ˜”) Dr Heidi Haavik.

I encourage you to bear with it & watch the whole thing as Jerome gets a bit woo woo in his description early on & I thought that may put some people off, which is a shame because as Heidi then explains it is not woo woo at all. ๐Ÿ™Œ

The second video is a really concise 3 min explanation of the reasons why this works ๐Ÿฉท

Dr Pete Levine - Beyond Theory Podcast S2 episodes 13 & 14

I read Dr Levine’s book Healing Trauma in the autumn last year. It’s a very small concise book with simple exercises at the back - I recommend having it to anyone with any long standing mental/nervous system dysfunction inc problems with addiction etc. It simply sets out the basic premise of Somatic Therapy for healing trauma.
Peter is a very early pioneer of body first trauma therapy & remains an exceptional resource for healing mental health issues of all types.

I love listening to Dr Levine and could listen all day but I know not everyone wants or needs all the nuts & bolts & just wants to get in the car & go so I will be finding some short, more potent videos to post here ASAP but these are wonderful in their own right. The 2 podcasts make an hour so maybe listen whilst driving or something & just let it wash over you as a subject. ๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿค—✊

Co-Morbidity is the Rule in Mental Health

That’s the post as they say.

Co-morbidity is the rule in mental health, not the exception mainly because it is all just bunches of symptoms grouped in the most coherent & commonly occurring fashion psychologists & psychiatrists could come up with for simplicity of categorisation. And importantly, one dysfunctional often leads to a second by dint of the trauma of living unsupported with the first.

My first awareness that someone could have both ADHD at the same time as Bipolar only occurred a couple of years back. I had disregarding ADHD completely at Bipolar dx in 2016 due to the cross over similarities. Then when the movement of Bipolar episodes stopped for long enough to see the damn hall mark inattentive symptom stand alone, I was astonished to find them to have been traumatically concurrent throughout my life until my Bipolar episodes were managed by lifestyle, nutritional & natural measures in the last few years.

Similarly, the plus BPD dx in 2019 accounted for symptoms I had also assumed to be part of Bipolar but weren’t & became resolvable mainly by my capacity to identify them, having the map as I always say.

And now the Sensory Processing Disorder type of Autism self dx, mopping up left over symptoms perfectly, like the correct jigsaw piece it is, whilst simultaneously being the uncomfortable, over sensitive core nervous system construction that caused all the other dysfunctions in its wake.

Taking Up Space - Why So Selfie

Taken from a preponderance of pondering upon my Instagram.

I was just pondering why I feel the desire to post so many selfies! And I think it’s ok, I think it’s the result of several factors including having been very ill for a very very long time & now starting to really feel better with the new information (#Audhd) especially normalising so many of my daily difficulties.

Then there is, as per the 2020 selfie post, a huge improvement in my skin & glow & skill with make-up, very much with aesthetic gains coming from #faceyoga like #Beautyshamans & #daniellecollins - so that’s something I’m proud of, that I put effort into that contributes to my feeling good in myself.

Then there is the sense of identity deficit from #BPD which while I feel is in remission still perhaps casts a shadow, understandably. And then finally, that lonesome, defuse, evasive #12housesun amplified by being in #Pisces with #Piscesrising lending even less substance to my sense of self & of being visible, “am I invisible?” Is the vibe. Am I a ghost is the vibe.

I spent a lot of time very mentally unwell on my own in this life, also a lot of time contemplating the spiritual realm of which I feel I have a exceptionally good feel for but I know staying fully embodied is healing & progressive of my nervous system trauma burden & being dissociative is not - both significantly lessening with all the wide range of nervous system tech I’m employing.

I’m so glad that being extra wordy is an Aspie/ASD1 trait ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜‚ makes sense of the urge to reach for a more elaborate descriptor all the time. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿฅฐ

Oh I get it - it about being willing to take up space in the world. That’s so lovely! ๐Ÿฅฐ

I am robustly not giving a ffff & putting my noggin or whatever I see fit out there anyway, whether you want it or not. ๐Ÿง‘๐Ÿป‍๐ŸŽค๐Ÿฅ‹ because there is space for me out there, there’s not a limit to the space nor any real valid competition about merit or worthiness.

At my worst with #anorexia I had my bed in the lounge & it was a foot too short, I am 5’5 the bed was about 4’5 & I dropped to under 7 stone several times in that decade - mad people aren’t allowed to take up space are they! I’m feeling that that was the undercurrent of #trauma #cPTSD I was stuck in.

And then 2010-2020 I was just disappeared, socially, personally not available, bar my long 9 month bipolar high - like a ‘can you see me now’ outburst right in the middle - but mostly suffering much undx psychosis & #anxiety with seemingly no end in sight although it did end.

And so this period over-selfieing on Instagram, without much response bar a couple of friends & family is healing for me, & challenging of course because #ADHD has #RSD as a difficult component & #BPD is as sensitive to being ignored as it’s possible to be…. And I’m fine ๐Ÿ‘Š๐ŸคŒ๐Ÿ’œ getting no likes, occasionally it’s a bit meh but it’s definitely within the bandwidth of fine on my emotional landscape - I mean what are likes anyway - how superficial is needing that? Really? Another persons opinion of you is more valid to you than how you feel about yourself - no way, I absolutely think not. The only person I want to impress is me.

I am reproducing this over from my Instagram where it unfolded to my blog - this place where I have links to every useful natural method & tech & substance that has helped me unravel my lifelong nervous system distress.

Medicinal Mushrooms for Nervous System & Brain Repair

I’m not going to do a full on academic overview, there’s many many out there, I will just link in some relevant bits. But it’s a personal blog & I wanted to say I’ve been back on some high strength Medicinal Mushroom powders after several years & I’m really really enjoying it.

I’ve been on nervous system & brain repair Lions Mane & anti cancer, anti inflammation Chaga for a few months now & recently added cellular energy boosting & anti-aging Cordyceps to great effect.

This is a nice article on the best medicinal mushrooms for brain - https://mushroominsider.com/medicinal-mushrooms-for-brain/ & you will see I have personally swapped out Reishi, the Queen of Relaxation for Chaga, the King of Energy at the moment & here’s a nice blog piece arguing for the benefit of a balance of opposites by taking both https://tamimteas.com/blogs/mushroom-tea/can-i-take-chaga-and-reishi-together.

Cordyceps is also a high energy mushroom with purportedly great benefits post menopause. This is a lovely blog piece with all the details of the top 3  https://blog.curativemushrooms.com/top-3-medicinal-mushrooms-to-improve-brain-function

Lastly here is Dr Axe on Chaga - https://draxe.com/nutrition/chaga-mushroom/. Reading through my own links now I’m going to include Reishi as a 4th if I possibly can because increasing your own bodies capacity to relax is ultimately the biggest healer of them all. ๐Ÿ™Œ

The Human Garage - Anti Stress - Anti-Gravity Full Spinal decompression Fascial Manoeuvre

Oh I love the effects of this exercise - I’m conked out needing a nap it’s made me sooooo relaxed! That’s a great thing, most of us have no idea how to unwind & this is literally that; unwinding at a deep level. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘ Additionally recommended as hormone balancing due to hormone imbalance being a side effect of nervous system imbalance/held trauma.

We are not alone

 Not in the least.

As many as (quick facts) 46% of us will meet the criteria for a diagnosable mental health condition at some point in our lives, so nearly half of us in the biggest picture overview of global mental health & yet out of those of us with longer lasting or lifelong Severe Mental Health diagnoses 88% say that discrimination against mental illness is widespread.

Us with the longer lasting possibly lifelong diagnoses account for 10.7% of the global population with a 11.9% female & 9.3% male split.

Approximately 10% population has ADHD, 2-3% has Autism.

Between 40-70% of Autists have ADHD & 20-50% of pwADHD have Autism.

Checking in more deeply with the Neurodiverse world of ADHD & Autism the discussion around including the severe mental illnesses cropped up & i admit I fall in the separatist category for the simple reason that one group is aiming to be rid of their symptoms as soon as possible & the other is wanting to find ways to live with & celebrate their traits rather than hide them. I saw the comment that lumping them all in together does both camps a disservice & im with that for the time being. I may be new to the ND conversation but I’m highly knowledgeable on severe mental health conditions & nobody wants to keep them, not ever.

In terms of overlap of the 2 camps I was disappointed that I could not find many statistics except 40% of Autists have severe enough anxiety to call it an additional disorder. I was left wondering if those stats are evasive due to the confusion of so many ND folk having been wrongly diagnosed in the first place only to eventually find that they had ADHD or Autism, both or with one of the others (I know Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia & Tourette’s also under the ND umbrella)

I’ve just seen a discussion of OCD being ND but admitting that it’s a mental illness ๐Ÿคท‍♀️ I still think my criteria is superior - if you want to get rid of it & it’s essentially rooted in healable trauma it’s mental illness & if you want to learn to live with it & expand on its gifts it’s ND.

I know, i know my own personal theory that intrauterine stress/trauma instigates genetic ND adaptation destroys the whole conversation ๐Ÿ˜‚ so if that was absolutely proven to be correct then we are right back with a huge ND umbrella but with healing trauma a top aim for all, which is as it should be.

Beware pwBipolar who have swallowed the hyperbole that the High can be tamed into creativity imao this is dangerous nonsense for the simple fact that both extremes leave you with brain damage, the more extreme the episode the worse the brain damage & the longer time it takes to recover & talking from my own experience, it takes years!

The Anti-Inflammatory Necessity of Things

Everyone knows that inflammation in the body is a thing the body kind of does when it’s hurt in various ways & everyone know that some things that you put into you body are more inflammatory & others more anti-inflammatory. In extreme inflammation you might need to take powerful anti-inflammatory drugs to stop or slow down the damage your own body is doing to itself seemingly mistakenly or accidentally although a Naturopath would likely tell you different.

Anyway I digress, my point is that almost all the things I advocate for on my blog & in the street when I’m talking you into my special interest natural health corner hahaha, they are all largely for the purpose of a general anti-inflammatory game plan for the body & a specific one for the nervous system & mind.

My favourite analogy is that for some people the damage of a highly inflammatory diet (think western style fast food/processed, high sugar/hydrogenated fat low nutrient dense diet) will go to their bones & joints first & they will suffer from pain & stiffness possibly developing into Arthritis or Rheumatism or wtv. Well, in my experience the same goes for the brain & nervous system if that is your genetic predisposition, to be extra sensitive in that body system then an inflammatory diet will affect you there with increased low mood, lethargy, anxiety, unhealthy anger, even reaching as far as paranoia, psychosis & severe depression.

The Mainstream medical field would do well, although less so financially ๐Ÿ˜‰ to adopt this angle much more for mental health than it does, often adding in medication that is not conducive to an anti-inflammatory perspective whilst simultaneously reducing metabolic functioning. Not helpful in the long run. I think medication should mainly be used in the short term only, whilst other situational, interpersonal & biological things are factored in.

Have I been misdiagnosed at any point?

Well the short answer to this is ‘no’ but because there’s so much conjecture on this topic in the Neurodivergent Community I’m going to unravel my own 40 year saga/story/experience a bit & explain why I think not. I fully get that misdiagnosis is really common for folk with ADHD & Autism & I even found a meme on Twitter expressing how similar to Bipolar plus BPD undiagnosed ADHD Autists can be but still I refute the allegation in my own case.

It almost goes without saying that I was repeatedly, extensively & you could almost describe it as determinedly the subject of completely missed diagnoses from the first time I every made it to a GP at 24 explaining that I was awake all night, night after night with intense unbrookable suicidal ideation & then so heavily asleep once there that a herd of trampolining wilderbeast would have failed to stir me for most of the next day. This was apparently not a concern as it was certainly due to my ‘not having a job’ according to most GPs despite the fact that often I had been putting in 60 plus hours a week into (usually somewhat improbable) self employment ideas that I had been having ‘sooooo many’ of just before the low mood set in….. ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคท‍♀️

I want to take care here because I get resentful looking back at all the times GPs patronised my depressions as a young single mother as being negligible & exaggerated & probably hysterical in some way & well, if I wasn’t interested in SSRIs with their potential side affect of worsened suicidal ideation &/or violence towards others & thereby possible death to self or others then it could not be that serious now could it.

What they didn’t understand is that even then, pre-internet, I knew where the library was & was insistently informing myself. I also certainly mentioned the word Bipolar at 24 to the GP because I’d been saying it since 19 to my own friends having read about it. I wondered at my own tenacity & wilfulness as I read about Spike Milligan unable to leave the house, sedating himself to withstand ‘the absolute horrors’ being his phrase for a Bipolar 1 depression.

The problems with psychiatric medicine as an entire field built largely on conjecture & meds for Bipolar being so disabling long term led me to research entirely away from the mainstream thought bubble. It was 1991 & I had rejected most ‘normal’ mainstream media already as it seemed to affect me really negatively & still does, this made me more capable of dodging the profit friendly push to medicate that was becoming ubiquitous.

I’m really proud to have been MSM intolerant for 40 years, I was like a canary in the coalmine of the fully existent reality of soft brainwashing of the population by framing & omission, gaslighting & straight faced lies that is becoming widely recognised & understood right now.

I don’t need to prove to anyone that I’ve had classic Bipolar type 1 since around age 18, I know it for myself, symptomologically, I have detailed recollection of crashes from highs & depressions that were self propelled, ever getting longer as the years progressed, the hardest thing to remember is the highs because I was invariably, as time went on getting drunk/binge drinking to somewhat control that highly stressful, 99% unconscious, deeply irresponsible, immensely painful state leading inexorably to the crash & the brain damage & the abject confusion, anxiety & low mood that would follow.

A mid piece addendum :- I discovered the work of Dr Amen fairly recently & he introduced to me the idea that General Anaesthetic can cause brain injury in susceptible nervous systems. I had 2 miscarriages followed by questionably necessary D&C operations with General Anaesthetic at 18 & 19 & I had my first, what I now recognise as crash from high just after that, it completely fits with Dr Amens brain damage/nervous system damage observations. A double physical trauma triggering the onset of Bipolar I believe. There was an emotional component of course but it was mild compared to the physical insult of the anaesthetic.

Then you plus BPD.

Ffs.

What was I thinking when I signed up for all this in this lifetime? Yes, let me dig my way out of a massive multi level mental illness sandwich, of which I cannot see the component parts for a very looong time, on my own, oh let me, I pleaded with my own actual self. I genuinely do think that’s what we are like between lives as souls, so concrete in our inhabiting the heart of the collective mind/god/all that is that no game of jeopardy is too great, no exploration of stones unturned too precarious for those so belonging to our ultimate indestructible indivisible ultra Self.

So plus BPD. I remember the childhood Rejection Sensitivity Dysphoria of undx auDHD transmuting into BPD at age 14/15, I remember the precise incident, it was like my emotional body catching fire because the irritation of RSD in that particular situation made me sooooo very very angry, I felt so out of control that something, some part of my subtle anatomy for want of a better, transmuted into a flammable gas tank with a serious leak & the trigger was the flame. A flammable gas tank that was to become a huge part of my relationships & even friendships & a backdrop to much social interaction - how not to burst into flames at minutia became a whole way of life trying to work around this freaking dangerous, apparently permanent unstable internal structure. BPD is immensely painful & is accompanied by a sense of being lost & baffled…. add that to not being able to follow a train of thought & forgetting what you are doing constantly.

I gave up relationships at 43 due to increasingly becoming overwhelmed by BPD symptoms & then close friendships also a couple of years later that had become surrogates of that. I was able to wade thru that chin deep pool of early trauma & recover much of that distorted energy by the stealth of growing self reliance & self awareness. I really like the phrase I used before about this; I had a policy of extreme non action socially & thereby sexually for many many years whilst I worked on that stuff, pre dx! Once I got the map, the dx it was so much easier, the disassociation eased up gradually when I read about what it was & that it’s a symptom of trauma especially. I have long worked with material designed to help PTSD, over 20 years looking at it from that angle yet for me the diagnosis as a map has been the most helpful, equally this with auDHD.

I’m disappointed to not just have one or the other out of ADHD or Autism, to miss out on the best bits of each as they are cancelled out by traits of the other is a description that I feel I can concur with at the moment. I can confidently self assess when I have Bipolar+BPD under decent control & when they aren’t & that has been what has enabled me to look at these other traits; the hyper ridgid adherence to routine, social difficulties & differences, the inability to focus most of the time unless I’m in hyperfocus, like right now which is great though the other state is deeply deeply frustrating, it must take me 10 times as long as it should to do most things yet I can play Beethoven on piano for hours & hours & not have a clue how long I’ve sat there.

How I perceive my full line up is kind of visual/feely: Bipolar 1 is like long very loud mood shifts that you can sense coming in & you have time to take various evasive action (see Balancing Brain Chemistry Naturally in the sidebar for more on this) BPD is caused by external things, has specific triggers & the core of it only becomes visible/feelable when you remove those triggers for long enough to feel the generalised dysphoric core which you can then dismantle (it’s trauma, so you feel it/be with it as kindly as possible to heal it - EMDR is absolutely invaluable for BPD)

That leaves my actual self, my well-being self & it’s auDHD facets which, once trauma is minimised as I’ve had to do just to get to feel this true self underneath the emotional & nervous system dysfunction, leaves me with the mental ‘differences’ & the social ‘differences’ so yes maybe there’s some related emotional differences as well - and sure they are more deeply, neuro-developmentally inscribed attributes, like they were the uncomfortable energetic fluctuations that attracted more & more trauma to gather around like scar tissue to protect the innate vulnerability, yet without the trauma they are much more benign & livewithable, I think so anyway.

Yes it’s hard having mental, emotional, learning & social interaction differences in a society that does not wish to cater for differences, does not want to spare the attention, ironically, or the resources to not traumatise people with different, more sensitive nervous systems & brains but it’s definitely doable. If we treat trauma as the cross society common thread that most needs mending, for all of us from the most neuro-normal to the most neuro-diverse, as Gabor Mate would have it, if we strive to make a trauma aware society we may just be able to survive the myriad challenges that face us as a species.

Individual Amino Acids for Mental Health & Addictions

I’ve been dabbling with individual Amino Acids for mental health for a really long time, perhaps 15 yrs & the ones that really help me the most personally are: DLPA (which is the precursor of Tryosine) or Tyrosine, Taurine, NAC (precursor to L Cysteine & Glutathione) info links are in my side bar list. There are others I’ve tried that didn’t suit me but purportedly work for other brain/ nervous system issues such as Theanine, L-Tryptophan, Acetyl-L-Carnitine & others.

There are whole forums dedicated to very detailed discussion of this relatively speaking very harmless, compared to alcohol use, recreational drugs or the vast majority of pharmaceuticals it’s a very safe & very cheap form of self medication.

This little video popped up when I was searching for a good mini lecture to share & this ND has a very similar stance to my own. She also discusses the ability to alter any addictive behaviour at all via this kind of pre-loading of the brain with ready precursors of the neurotransmitters we are dysfunctional in & thereby altering the brain condition that makes addictive behaviour irresistible in the first place.

Cool.

A comment on the YouTube video ๐Ÿ‘‡ the second word I believe is Glutathione, the master antioxidant that N-Acetyl-Cysteine is the best precursor of  hence you would take either DLPA plus NAC plus Taurine or Tyrosine plus NAC plus Taurine for this Holy Grail anti depressant plus addiction affect. I would add high EPA Fish oil, Phosphatidylserine & Shilajit if you wanted to shot at becoming super human lol & I’m not joking!

With all things natural you should engage in any new protocol for 4-6 months before deciding if you’ve benefited from it or not. I usually notice really fast personally as I have a high response metabolism, nervous system & reasonably high body awareness I think.

MindAmend - Jason Lewis - Isochronic Tones for ADHD & Mood Relief

 MindAmend@Youtube.com

I’ve just added a specific link to Jason of MindAmends free YouTube in my “Magic Side Bar of Harmless Healing Therapies & Things” because I’d only linked to his website before & that doesn’t instantly give you the content to try & you absolutely must.

MindAmend aka Jason Lewis’s has been my main man of the last year since discovering that beneath the emotionally stormy surface of my BPD & Bipolar, as that dissipated, beneath that churning surface lurked a cause to all the mayhem & that cause was not being able to maintain attention for more than a few seconds (plus other things but for brevity) & being endlessly agitated by the semiconscious & innately frustrating experience of that. Anyway Jason was one of my first finds on discovery of my ADHD a year ago.

His Isochronic Tone music essentially is a gentle form of brainwave entrainment that can attenuate mood & focusability making it particularly useful for ADD/ADHD as well as for BPD/NPD, Bipolar, MDD etc. His half million subscribers on YouTube are not wrong, his content is far & away the most healing & helpful & thoroughly trustworthy I have found & that last point being incredibly important with any brain affecting content you subject yourself to.

I have been using this free half hour Wake Up without caffeine: Sunshine in Bali video daily & though I actually have my only coffee of my day during it, it is a gorgeous way to wake up on headphones, like waking up inside a marshmallow & being birthed into the day effortlessly & weightlessly without the massive Cortisol drop that I have been prone to all my life, since, I guess ‘rushing’ was instilled into my young nervous system, I guess as a pre-schooler. As a neuro-developmentally hypersensitive nervous system battered into shape by an unnatural world unsuited to nurturing it, without considerable effort my tendency is to wake up with the level of adrenaline & cortisol that would be more fitting to attending the scene of a mass shooting & then the rest of my day spent attempting to disperse this corrosive neurotransmitter cocktail by various means & in the past predominantly failing & actually, without meaning to, escalating it.

Not perfectly explained but it will do. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฉท

Thank you Jason for all that you do for us & you’ve done so much for me personally, I literally have you on Apple Music, hard to say how much but on a bad day you are there very much of the day. Your brain training material/ aka Amygdala Gym material still being a firm favourite so I’m adding one of those here too for other people to try. ♥️♥️♥️

Shilajit - Supercharged Natural Supplement inc brain/hormone health

Here is a lovely Dr Axe article on the all round goodness of the traditional Ayurvedic supplement Shilajit - https://draxe.com/nutrition/shilajit/. I like Shilajit a lot, it’s an expensive supplement but you need the tiniest amount daily to see benefits. During my several decades of missed diagnoses I developed an eating disorder twice, for an extended period of nearly a decade the second time, Shilajit was part of my post Anorexia healing with its black tar earthy, mineral rich, pungent taste & appearance.

It’s like a real world multi mineral supplement in tar form & you melt a bit in some hot water & drink it down in a tumbler to your own level of acceptable taste.

It’s a wonder supplement in my actual opinion & I would recommend it for all mental health conditions but especially the ones that twin with the eating disorders like BPD.

N-Acetyl Cysteine - All round brain health super nutrient

 https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/integrative-mental-health-care/201910/n-acetylcysteine-promising-treatment-many-disorders

Some people don’t get on with NAC but I really do & I love it. You can buy capsules but I pretty much buy everything I use in cheaper purer powder form so I have a big jar of it in my kitchen & I add 1/5 tsp to my cold ginger/turmeric infusion before I walk my dogs (plus vit c/bioflavonoids/pine bark ex/ collagen powder then I have a tsp high EPA fish oil & vit E oil with some green tea ex powder & im flying out that door although not in a bad or ungrounded way, just right, just energised, feeling positive & nutritionally facilitated๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿฅฐ

Another more general health focused article here: https://drbrighten.com/nac-benefits/

I am super sensitive to blood sugar disturbances particularly to do with mood & NAC marvellously also has powerful positive effects on blood sugar regulation.

Lithium Orotate - Safe Mood Stabiliser with Brain & Metabolism Repair Capacity

Nice article - https://www.naturalmentalhealth.com/blog/lithium-orotate

I love love love my Lithium Orotate 5 mg - I have taken this supplement for about a decade & rarely miss an evening without it in my Cinnamon Yogi tea (I empty the capsule in as I don’t like capsules so much).

I can’t remember whether or not I was still taking it when I got high in 2015, ( this was my last Bipolar High FYI) I may have let it drop as I was taking a lot of different things whilst running a SuperFood/Herb shop for my friend. The reasons for that high are many & complex but by far the biggest reason for that high was the stress of impending benefits changes to benefits I had been reliant on since my teens & my sorry ass misdiagnosed undiagnosed nervous system did not know in which direction it should run so it went *up*  & didn’t stop till it hit the *ceiling* lol but no, ouch, really seriously the most painful experience of my entire life was that high but especially the entirely unmedicated crash.

Also I would add that my life was literally saved that year by the fact that I didn’t drink alcohol & was generally rather introverted & unsociable. I’d given up alcohol at 40 & along with it my facade of ease at interpersonal camaraderie, so getting on easily with others went away also. This worked well for me on that high as being so unhinged from reality, in & out of that, makes a gal excessively vulnerable to more manipulative types, but not if you don’t interact with them of course.

Anyway, back to the supplement- the reason I’m curious as to whether I was taking it when I got high is that you can increase the dose to 20mg safely for an increased mood stabilising effect but I because I was undx bipolar, I’d been told unequivocally & wrongly that I did not have it by a Psychiatrist in 2009, I’d always thought I had bipolar since around 18 but that threw me the biggest curve ball of my life. So I was not taking it for Bipolar, so I had probably lapsed it & I certainly didn’t increase dose (you can also increase fish oil x2 or 3 to prevent a bipolar high see the excellent Peter Smiths work Balancing Brain Chemistry Naturally in my side bar for full details).

I’m explaining this to demonstrate that Lithium Orotate did not fail me in 2015 I did not utilise its full potential or any of the other things that I know about now & have been using that will pretty faithfully prevent a high taking hold. To be honest, the most important defence against that high in 2015 would have been having the diagnosis & some support & to have had protection from the benefits changes.

I’ve rambled on, it’s my blog I should definitely do that here ๐Ÿ™Œ

Phosphatidylserine: Myelin Sheath, Brain, Cognitive Health Repair Supplement

 https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25933483/

I’ve had some very well spent time with Phosphatidylserine - back after my major undx 9 month Bipolar 1 high in 2015, PS was one of my recovery supplements over 2016/2017 as I recovered from the, pretty transparent brain damage/cognitive deficits that occurred in that unmedicated nervous system free for all.

I’ve written in the side bar “short term” use because I seem to remember that it was most effective when used as a 6 month course or a couple of months. I haven’t felt the need for it for a long time but it absolutely served a magnificent purpose & I remember looking forwards to taking it just before sleep with a 3mg Melatonin I think & probably with my (still) best friend Lemon Balm Tincture or a heavier Valerian/Skullcap tincture bedtime combo & dropping off into a deep sleep easily despite the days typical mental disorganisation, confusion & ridiculously high anxiety.

I haven’t included high EPA Fish Oil/Omega 3 Oil in my Help for Mental Health side bar because I assume that, plus high dose B Vitamins as well as decent vit D or sun exposure everyone knows that these 3 kick so much ass for the brain. Maybe I shouldn’t assume anything & add those links as they are the fundamentals of brain/nervous system health & long term repair.

Dr Axe does lovely articles on everything natural health - his page on PS is typical of his really helpful & easy info pages https://draxe.com/nutrition/phosphatidylserine

auDHD link to creative thinking

 https://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/aug/22/autism-creative-thinking-study

Well yes, I think so.

So, I’ve tasked myself

So I’ve tasked myself to start a new blog, from a new, more up to date place of understanding & awareness of my situation as I’d let the old one drift away from me in the light of my recent neurodivergent diagnostic insights.

The jokes do just write themselves when you can justifiably describe yourself as having ***all*** of the most well known diagnoses but it’s also too easy to be blasรฉ when trying to explain to others less knowledgeable when I’ve spent decades in depth delving into mental health subjects trying to get well.

And well I have got, comparatively well anyway by my own difficult difficult adult life standards only with an apparent default status of permanently disabled.

That’s emotive in itself. And then there is the arriving at the Neurodivergence Party only to discover that all my time in the wilderness has not been very well spent as all these youngsters are having an absolutely brilliant time at the ND thing & I still haven’t completely pinned down what the parameters are or even whether or not that attempted pinning is appropriate or actually possible.

There’s still time.
